Checkmate: Google Winskidmercury | 24 February, 2006 15:41 Google is about to become the intermediary for P2P ecommerce. Think Ebay, minus the auctions. I still think very highly of Google, both in terms of their strategic brilliance and the overwhelmingly positive contribution the company has made to the world (yes, they have their shady stuff, but when you stack up the good against the bad in my opinion the good stack is exponentially larger than the bad), so I'm eager to see how this pans out. I think it's important to note that from a strategy perspective Google understands the Internet better than anyone, ever, and by far. So once they make this viral, and once webmasters are allowed to sell more than just adsense, the wealth will be shared. What will be their next step? Their own currency? It would be a wise move, in my opinion, as it would allow them to more easily facilitate transactions between buyers and sellers whose respective native currencies differ greatly in value, as they can use their currency to ensure greater economic efficiency (think purchasing power parity). When you look at the AdSense and AdWords pricing mechanisms, its clear that Google understands the importance of efficiencies in pricing. Note how this news comes on a Friday, after the stock market closes. This appears to be a pattern with major Google announcements. commentsWhat is this blog?Hello, I call myself Kid Mercury.
