Will Tivo Be the Next Internet Giant?kidmercury | 04 December, 2005 00:06 Right now there are three primary Internet giants: Google -- the starting point for more regular Internet users, as well as those who value fast and simple search. Yahoo -- Like communication tools, community, interactivity, and social media? Yahoo's your answer. Microsoft -- Your computer probably comes with Internet Explorer, so MSN is where you start. The next big player is not going to be one who can come in and take away customers from the current giants. Instead, it's going to be someone who can effectively reach those that are not currently using the web. Enter Tivo. There are plenty of people who don't really use or like computers, but there aren't too many people in developed countries that can say the same about television. As television and the Internet converge, could the firm that can make TV a portal to the web be the next big player? If so, who is best positioned to do this?
