Del.icio.us Offers Search -- Potentially Disruptive to Google?kidmercury | 26 October, 2005 11:23 Niall Kennedy and Threadwatch both note that the social bookmarking tool Del.icio.us now allows their tagged sites to be searched by the public. Could this be disruptive to Google? I previously mentioned that Google would get displayed by a company that had a different "power" -- meaning a different core competency -- than the text-searching, site-indexing giant Google. In the article I thought technology companies that specialized in blog search, audio/video search, or some other vertical search might win -- but could it not be a social bookmarking tool? Delicious focuses on organizing content by user-generated tagging; Google focuses on scouring the web and organizing content in a more automated, mechanized manner. Different competencies are present....add in a non-PPC revenue model, and Delicious could be a winner, in my opinion.
